Charge of neglect leads to removal of children

Sometimes parents in Ballantyne make choices that can put their children in harm’s way. When this occurs, parents may find themselves in the midst of a family law dispute brought on by a government agency or other family members. In such cases, if the parents are found to be unable to care properly for their children, then the court may use grandparents’ rights to ensure that the children are kept with family members.

Two young children were put into the protective custody of a government agency recently after their parents and they tested positive for cocaine. The parents have an extended history of arrests but it is unknown what the prior arrests were for. It is unknown how the children, a one-year-old and two-year-old ended up ingesting the drug.

The couple was brought to the attention of authorities when an allegation of neglect was made against them; it is unknown where the allegation came from. No mention of other family members was made and so it is uncertain whether any relatives of the children will come forward to try and seek legal custody of them. It is also unknown if the agency will try to remove the children from their parents permanently.

A dispute involving parents and the custody of the children is likely to be filled with emotions. In this case, it may be that the parents have been struggling with an addiction. An experienced family law attorney may be able to help parents in a difficult situation by presenting options that will help them regain custody and work with authorities.
