Man arrested 12 times in 4 years for failing to pay child support

In North Carolina, when two parents are living separately, the custodial parent typically has a right to child support from the non-custodial parent. This money is used to take care of the needs of the child including housing, food, clothing and other necessities. The amount of child support a parent receives will vary depending on the circumstance. This can either be decided in court or it can be an amount that is agreed upon by the two parents in an informal arrangement.

A 45-year-old man who has refused time and again to make his required child support payments has been arrested for the 12th time in four years. In 2011 alone, he was taken into custody over four times for failing to pay his court-ordered child support. In that same year he was ordered to live in alternative housing while he either got a full-time job and had his wages garnished for four months or until he made $5,000 in child support payments.

Prior to this most recent arrest, the man was jailed for four days in January for defaulting on child support payments. When he moved to Pennsylvania in 2009, he owed $109,000 in child support. Since that time, he has maintained a child support debt of over $100,000.

As a result of this man’s irresponsibility toward making his child support payments, his children have likely had to go without. If you are in a similar situation and are having a hard time collecting the child support you are owed, you may wish to speak with a lawyer experienced in family law.
