Domestic violence may increase during holidays

The holiday season in Ballantyne, North Carolina can undoubtedly bring with it joy and a sense of peace for families, but for some, it can be a very stressful time. This stress can sometimes lead to incidents of domestic violence. This may be due to the fact that there tends to be more family gatherings around this time and oftentimes there is alcohol consumed at these events. Also, financial stresses can contribute to the increase in domestic violence.

Oddly enough, national abuse organizations have noticed a decrease in the number of domestic violence incidents that are reported to law enforcement during the holidays. The National Domestic Violence Hotline has reported that there is a sharp decrease in the number of calls they get during the holidays. The reason for this is thought to be because families want to stay together during the holidays and don't want one of their family members behind bars during this time.

The National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women conducted a study where they looked at police reports from around the country. They found that there were almost three times the number of domestic violence incident reports on New Year's Day compared to an average day. Many believe that this is evidence that those who are victims of Domestic Violence suffer in silence during the holiday season and wait to report it until after the holidays are over.

If you have experienced domestic violence, you would be well advised to speak with an attorney about your case. Doing so can ensure that you are properly represented and that your interests are protected in court.
