Man arrested after paying child support with fake money

There are parents in Ballantyne, North Carolina that would go to any lengths possible to avoid paying their court-ordered child support. They are often known as “dead-beat” parents because of their negligence and general lack of responsibility toward their children.

It is not uncommon to hear about parents trying to get out of paying the full amount of required child support, but a unique case in New York shows just how far some people are willing to go to escape their obligations.

A 34-year-old attempted to give a woman fake money for his child support. The woman became suspicious of the cash and contacted authorities to report the incident. The sheriff’s office responded and confirmed her suspicions when they found two of the $100 bills had the same serial number.

Unfortunately, this is not the man’s first run-in with the law for making fake money. In fact, he was still on parole for making fake currency in 2005 and having a forged medical prescription in 2009. For his most recent misconduct, he could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. The harsh sentence is due to his prior convictions.

Sadly, the ones who are really hurt by this man’s activity are his own children. Because of his refusal to be responsible and pay his required child support, they may likely have to go without.

If you are in a similar situation and are having difficulty collecting child support from the parent of your child, you may wish to consult with a family law attorney.
