Does beauty increase the chance of divorce?

If you're going through a divorce, it's likely that your head is spinning with questions like, "What went wrong?" and "Could I have done something different to prevent this?" Some North Carolina residents will even lament their decision to say "I do." But what if your divorce had nothing to do with any of the reasons you're thinking about? What if you're getting a divorce because you're too beautiful?

Beauty is clearly in the eye of the beholder, but a new study shows that the more attractive a person is, the shorter his or her romantic relationships will be. This "beauty effect" even increases the likelihood of divorce.

The study searched for a correlation between the length of the average relationship and physical attractiveness. According to the results of the research, individuals who received the highest attractiveness ratings in their high school yearbooks experienced higher divorce rates and shorter marriages.

The social scientists who performed the study determined that attractive people had shorter relationships because of the "derogation of attractive alternatives." In other words, attractive people experience an increased vulnerability to falling for other partners in the event their relationship turns sour.

Most people, even the most attractive among us, want to be more beautiful. However, this study reveals that being physically attractive comes with some downsides. When it comes to marriage longevity, at least, the average folks have the upper hand.

Regardless why your marriage is coming to an end, a North Carolina divorce lawyer can help you safeguard your legal rights in your legal proceedings. A lawyer can assist you in divorce issues related to asset division, pet custody, child custody, child support, alimony and other matters.
